AMD’s Next-Gen Ryzen Zen 4 Chip Coming In 2022

Published by Nalin Rawat on FossBytes

During a short interview, AMD’s lead executives Robert Hallock and John Taylor dropped some important news about the company’s upcoming products. They looked back on five years of AMD’s Ryzen processors and discussed the future of AMD CPUs coming in 2022. This comes just before the launch of Intel’s new 12th Gen Alder Lake CPUs.

Ryzen processor upgrade (Zen 3 & Zen 4)

Robert mentioned that the new Ryzen processors with AMD 3D V-Cache technology will be coming in early 2022. As showcased at Computex 2021, this 3D V-Cache technology can result in a 15% better gaming performance on average.

This technology will come to both newer Zen 4 products as well as older Zen 3 CPUs. The same chips will still be compatible with older AM4 sockets, meaning users who want to upgrade can still benefit from this 3D V-Cache technology.

The new CPUs will also mark the end of the AM4 socket, making way for the next-generation platform (AM5?). According to Hallock, the new socket will support DDR5 RAM, PCI Express Gen 5, and cooler compatibility with existing socket AM4 coolers. This will put next-gen AMD processors neck and neck with Intel Alder Lake processors scheduled to arrive later this year.

AMD notebook CPUs

Hallock also announced that AMD would introduce new notebook CPUs featuring better power efficiency. The two executives also talked about how the company is working to improve the power efficiency of laptops by using several power-management algorithms. This process was referred to as “Power Management Framework” but is not a marketing name.

The new AMD notebook CPUs will arrive in early 2022. We can expect to see a significant bump in both performance and efficiency from AMD-powered notebooks next year. There’s also the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7000 or Raphael processors, which support both DDR5 and PCIe gen 5.0. With all these upgrades, the company is planning to give Intel quite a run for its money.
