Ways to differentiate your services from others as a freelancer

The freelancing market is saturated. A lot of people are trying to break barriers and have more clients for their services. Standing out as one of the best is a mountainous task especially if you're just getting started.

Ways to differentiate your services from others as a freelancer

Here are ways to make your services attractive, and preferable.

1. Start with lower prices

This is probably the more obvious one. Competing with experienced and well-connected freelancers is hard and one of the best options to win is to make sure you are offering your services at a lower and reasonable price than theirs. One mistake that people do however is to ridiculously reduce their price, the clients will start suspecting that the price is low because maybe your service offering is below the required quality.

2. Go beyond what's required of your service offering, Do More.

When a client hires you to do something, go the extra mile of providing more than required. Freelancers have a culture of not finishing what they started or doing only what is required or what they were hired for. To be able to earn more from your clients and make them refer you to another client, you have to do more. For example, if someone hires you to do a site SEO audit and fix the issues, there are many aspects of SEO which you can educate your client on and offer solutions and suggestions like search consoles, sitemaps, meta tags, and keywords research.

3. Find problems and offer solutions

More related to the above point of doing more. As a freelancer is important that you thoroughly know your field and you're good at identifying problems and offering the required solutions. Clients are usually unaware of problems, they may even hire you for a problem that does not exist, and it's your job to tell them the truth about their problem and demystify the issues and the solutions required.

4. Good customer service

Even as a freelancer you need to be good at customer service. This is the most important thing in any business. Treat your clients as your boss. People want to be treated good, and if you make a person feel good and well served then they will have an overall positive view of you.

5. Follow up

After you have won your client and you provided the service, it's also important that you follow up and ask if your services and solutions worked.  Also, know if they're satisfied with your work and never hesitate to fix those problems if there are any.

6. Create a connection/partnership/friendship.

Every client you serve must be your partner in the long run. Learn to develop good connections with your clients as this will help you develop referrers. If you're offering your services at a considerable price, you do more than is required, and you have good customer service, then it's almost certain that your client will refer you to people who may need your services.
