Starting your freelancing journey on Nerdlify

Starting out as a freelancer, finding clients who can pay well is a mountainous task. The competition, the struggles that come with it and not to mention the skills required to be a competitive freelancer.  This post intends to highlight a few things which may be helpful for your freelancing career and how you can use Nerdlify as your selling point. This post is a continuation of the previous freelancing in Zimbabwe post, so you may start by perusing it first.

How to start freelancing on Nerdlify

Highly talented people are hard to find. Nerdlify is a platform where talented developers. programmers, marketers, and writers can list their profiles, work, and their experiences so that any hiring company or person can build their dream team. People are creating businesses every day, and each of them needs a talented pool of talent to draw from. If you successfully make your profile stand out, then easy for you, an offer is on the way.

1. Create a profile

The first thing on nerdlify is to create a profile. Fill in all the required details like the first name, last name, username, phone, email, country, profile picture, service you offer and your passwords. make these details as authentic as you can, this will make recruiters trust your profile. After that, you'll be asked to select your preferred technologies, programming languages, tools, and frameworks., also be truthful about this. If you can, also add your social accounts, like Twitter, GitHub and Linkedin, this will help recruiters know more about you before they hire you.

Add a reasonable compensation

The other thing you'll be asked is the compensation or salary, use this opportunity to not scare off potential recruiters. Be reasonable and your skills should justify that compensation amount.

2. Add a portfolio

The most important of them all is the list of previous work you have done. Again be truthful about it and list all the projects you're most proud of. This will help the recruiter assess your skill level and how perfectly you can fit with their team. Your portfolio must have a variety of projects, build using all the technologies you know. Show off your work. Also give links to GitHub or whichever code hosting platform you're using for those projects.

3. Previous employment

You can also add your previous or current employment status. Since nerdlify is not a freelancer's platform, this will not ruin your odds of getting any jobs and is not being used in our recommendation engine. So show off the company you're working at and the position you currently hold there.

4. Share your profile on your social media

Nobody knows you're a freelancer yet. And the best way to be known is to post your nerdlify account on social media, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and WhatsApp.
